Minor Hotels, a hotel owner, operator and investor, currently with a portfolio of 159 hotels and resorts in 26 countries across Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Europe, South America, Africa and the Indian Ocean, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Craig Hooley as the new Chief Operating Officer of Oaks Hotels & Resorts and AVANI Hotels & Resorts (Australia and New Zealand), effective 30th April 2018.
In his capacity as Chief Operating Officer, Mr Hooley will spearhead Oaks and AVANI’s corporate and commercial operations in its key markets of Australia and New Zealand – where it currently has a portfolio of over 50 properties.
Since making its foray into the AU/NZ market in 2017, AVANI Hotels & Resorts has already opened the doors of AVANI Broadbeach Gold Coast Residences and AVANI Metropolis Auckland Residences, and under Mr Hooley’s leadership, will continue to grow in these key regions, with AVANI Central Melbourne Residences slated to open later this year.
He will also be instrumental in developing forward growth strategies for the hotelier and providing leadership across various corporate factions to deliver continued business excellence.
Prior to joining Minor Hotels, Mr Hooley held the role of General Manager of the Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney, following on from a successful tenure at Shangri-La International Hotel Management in Hong Kong.
Mr Hooley has also amassed extensive industry experience during his impressive two-decade long hospitality career, having held several key leadership positions with Mirvac Hotels & Resorts and InterContinental Hotels Group, both in Australia and overseas, spanning operational, management, commercial and human resource disciplines.
Chief Executive Officer of Minor Hotels, Mr Dillip Rajakarier, commented on the appointment:
“A respected leader with global experience acquired by working with some of the world’s leading hotel and hospitality brands, we are delighted to welcome Craig to our team as Oaks and AVANI’s new Chief Operations Officer for Australia and New Zealand.
“Craig will play a major part in the brands’ ongoing success as the business continues to flourish and develop into one of leading and largest accommodation providers in the Australian and New Zealand region,” said Mr Rajakarier.
Mr Hooley will be based in Minor Hotels’ regional office in Maroochydore on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. He is also currently a member of Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA).
