Find Holiday Apartments on the Gold Coast for families
Gold Coast Resort & Hotel Accommodation
Welcome to the GC! We know it doesn't need an introduction, but just in case, you’re new to this part of Australia, here it is:
The Gold Coast is a sun-drenched paradise just an hour from Brisbane, where sand and good times by the sea make up the ideal coastal escape. We’ll say it’s the ultimate Australian playground (for the little ones and the big kids too).
How about a day at the Gold Coast’s famous theme parks? Warner Bros. Movie World, Dreamworld, Sea World, and Wet'n'Wild are usually high on the list. These parks are perfect for visiting with the family or if you’re after a heart-pounding experience.
If you’d rather swap rollercoasters for rainforest walks, the Gold Coast Hinterland is your go-to. Take a hike through Lamington* National Park and be surrounded by great waterfalls, ancient trees and fresh air (pinky promise, it’s worthy).
No matter how you like to spend your holiday, you can rest your head at an Oaks Resort and Hotel Accommodation in the Gold Coast, and we’ll look after you like family.
Lounge over at the Oaks Gold Coast Calypso Plaza Suites in Coolangatta, a family beachfront resort with roomy apartments with amazing ocean views and all the amenities you need for making your stay even more relaxed. You’re also just a 40 minutes drive from the stunning Byron Bay, making it a top pick for a cheeky day trip in between relaxing days by Coolangatta Beach.
Craving some urban location? Try Oaks Gold Coast Hotel in the bustling Surfers Paradise. Here you’ll find stylish accommodation for families with incredible views of the Gold Coast and hinterland (sounds nice, right?). Fancy a rooftop swim, a bite at the on-site restaurant, or a night out on the town? Well, you grab your glad rags, and we’ll sort the rest.
Want a fancier accommodation or just treat yourself? Our little sister, Avani Broadbeach Gold Coast Residences, may be the right place. Located in lively Broadbeach, these modern suites combine style with comfort. Plus, there's a rooftop infinity pool so you can take that obligatory ‘staring into the distance in my cozzie’ pic.
From hotel rooms to holiday apartments in the Gold Coast, there’s a stay here with your name on it. You might come just for the Gold Coast escape, but we may warn you: the pool, the beach and that holiday feeling are pretty easy to miss once you’re home.
*Yes, like the cake, but much better for your health.

Oaks Gold Coast Hotel - AustraliaWhat is the Gold Coast, Australia, famous for?
If we have to sum it up: beaches, sunshine and ‘I just need one more day here, pls’ feeling.
The Gold Coast is all about surf breaks, a laid-back coastal lifestyle and sunshine pretty much all year round. You’ve also got places like Surfers Paradise, rainforest walks in the hinterland and enough cafés and rooftop bars to keep your inner foodie very happy.
It’s chilled, but with just the right amount of buzz to keep things interesting. Which probably explains why so many people end up extending the trip once they stay at Oaks Gold Coast Resorts and Hotels.
What is the weather usually like in the Gold Coast?
With around 300-ish sunny days a year, it’s fair to say the weather stays warm most of the time. During the summer it can get hot and humid, ideal for spending the day at the beach or having an afternoon swim, while winters stay fairly mild compared to other parts of Australia.
You’ll still get rainy days, especially in summer, so... packing a jumper for the evening and swimmers for the daytime will be a great idea.
What are the best places to visit on the Gold Coast?
Gold Coast + outdoor plans = The perfect match. Enjoy places like Burleigh Heads, where you can walk along the beach or stop in a laid-back café, while Currumbin and Coolangatta Beach will give you a break from the buzz and a more local feel. Surfers Paradise is still one of the most famous places to visit and get the classic Gold Coast experience.
Beyond the coastline, the Gold Coast Hinterland around Springbrook, Lamington and Main Range National Parks, will give another perspective of the place with rainforest walks, waterfalls and impressive lookouts. The Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre is also a good stop if you want to learn more about the area’s cultural side.
And then don’t forget to visit the markets. Somehow, you always end up leaving with some snacks, candles, or a souvenir (your suitcase might not be so happy later). Retail therapy it’s such a fun thing to do during your well deserved holidays, right?
What is there to do in the Gold Coast?
Let’s be real, a shorter list might be what isn’t there to do. At the beaches, you can enjoy surfing, swimming, and paddleboarding. We recommend heading to Burleigh Heads and Coolangatta Beach.
Don’t miss the theme parks. Spend a day with the kids at Warner Bros Movie World. If you don’t love them, just head up to SkyPoint to get some of the most impressive views of the coastline, stretching out in every direction. And when it’s time to slow things down, take a day trip to the hinterland, which is full of rainforest walks, waterfalls and small, charming towns.
And it really goes in every direction from there. If your idea of a holiday includes retail therapy, Pacific Fair usually ends up on the list sooner or later. If you’d rather lean into the wilder side of things, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary makes that easy, too.
Travelling with the kids? Finding our Gold Coast accommodation for families near the beaches or theme parks usually makes the whole trip a lot easier too.
What food is the Gold Coast known for?
There’s nothing as good as the seafood here.
You cannot leave without trying the local prawns, Moreton Bay bugs and the classic fish and chips by the beach that somehow always taste better near the sea (trust us). FYI, don’t leave your chips unattended around the ibis if you really wanna have them.
Gold Coast foodie scene is so rich.. Around Palm Beach, you‘ve got banging Mexican spots, slick modern Aussie restaurants and heaps of Asian-fusion gems along the coast. And for the drinks? Local breweries are part of the experience too, especially if you feel like settling in with a cold beer after a day outside.
If you want to eat like a local, a few blackened snags by the park can be one of the best ways to end the day.
What are the top annual events on the Gold Coast?
Gold Coast stays pretty busy once event season kicks in. Around October, the Gold Coast 500 takes over the streets near Surfers Paradise with Supercars, noise and plenty of chaos in the best way possible. The Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival also rolls in around May, bringing free live music to the streets.
The SWELL Sculpture Festival transforms Currumbin Beach into a huge outdoor gallery by the ocean. Magic Millions Carnival in January brings horse racing, fashion and long lunches into the mix too. You’ll also come across food festivals, music and sports events throughout the year, and staying in our Gold Coast holiday apartments will keep you close to the action.
How to get to the Gold Coast?
Fly into Gold Coast Airport in Coolangatta, it’s the closest and so easy for both domestic and international flights. Once you land, you can hire a car, grab a rideshare or book a shuttle into the city. Another way will be to fly into Brisbane Airport, if you don’t mind a slightly longer drive down the coast (to be fair, the road trip is worth it).
How to get around the Gold Coast?
The G:link tram is usually the easiest way to get around the coastline, mostly between Helensvale, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. Buses also run across most areas through the Translink network, and you can use contactless payment or a Go Card to get around.
If you’re planning day trips into the hinterland, though, hiring a car tends to make life a bit easier and will give more flexibility.
Where to stay on the Gold Coast?
Choosing Gold Coast accommodation mostly comes down to the kind of holiday you’re after. Coolangatta is a great idea if you want your holiday to involve slower mornings, beach walks and cute cafés. Surfers Paradise is the opposite energy, it tends to be busier, brighter and closer to nightlife.
Broadbeach will be somewhere in the middle, with easy access to good restaurants, the beach and places like Pacific Fair nearby. Truth is, whenever you stay, you’ll have a wonderful holiday.
What type of accommodation does Oaks Hotels offer on the Gold Coast?
Oaks offer a mix of hotel rooms and holiday apartments across the Gold Coast, around main sites such as Surfers Paradise and Coolangatta. Depending on your trip, you can stay in a studio or a larger apartment with enough space for the whole family or mates to enjoy.
Many of our rooms come with balconies and views across the coastline, along with some great extras like kitchen facilities and amenities like swimming pools that make longer stays feel a lot easier.
