Fantastic Melbourne Festivals You Shouldn’t Miss!

Oaks-Hotels-Melbourne-Festival-Donuts-1312x533

Melbourne is known for being a city full of festivals, and there’s certainly a plethora of international events hosted in this colourful city that are not to be missed, but there’s also a thriving and lesser-known festivals that the locals have been enjoying all to themselves. Here are our favourite four festivals sure to blow your socks off.

Jump to:

1. Antipodes Festival

The Antipodes Festival is just one of Melbourne’s hidden festivals that you are sure to love. It is usually held on the last weekend of February and is known for being Melbourne’s biggest Greek street party filled with culture, colour, food, and entertainment. Expect international performers, stallholders, and artists with surprises and exciting activities to enjoy.

2. Brunswick Music Festival

The Brunswick Music Festival is one of the most iconic Melbourne festivals, held every year in March. It features a colourful and diverse mix of multicultural artists from nearby and across the globe. The festival showcases the best in acoustic, folk & roots music, and it is an event that is sure to bring out your inner hipster. Beyond the music, it’s a chance to explore one of the city’s most characterful areas, known for its independent cafés, record stores and multicultural dining scene.

This festival is a must while you are visiting Melbourne, and it is only a short tram ride from the city centre out to Victoria Street in Brunswick.

3. Asia Street Food Festival

The Asia Street Food Festival is hosted by Asia Oasis, is an outdoor event inspired by traditional night markets in Melbourne, where you can try classic dishes from Asian cuisine, like noodles, bao, and dumplings. It takes place at Alexandra Gardens with food-truck-style stalls. With its colourful atmosphere, cultural performances, and casual dining, it’s a great way to experience Melbourne’s multicultural food scene in one place.

4. Melbourne Beerfest

The Melbourne BeerFest is typically held at Catani Gardens in St Kilda during the summer, right by the bay. Think sea air, palm trees, and enough room to wander between taps, live music stages and the inevitable food truck stop (or three). It’s an easy spot to get to and very Melbourne in spirit.
You don’t need to be a beer expert at all to enjoy it. The festival is approachable, well-paced and welcoming, making it just as suitable for casual tasters as it is for dedicated craft beer fans.

With most of these Melbourne festivals or close surrounds, Oaks Hotels & Resorts has you covered for accommodation, with our hotels featuring studios, 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, with some offering 3 bedroom apartments, all close to public transport and major attractions. How do I get to Antipodes Festival by public transport?

The festival is on Lonsdale Street in the Greek Quarter, easy to reach on foot from Melbourne Central and Parliament train stations, and well-connected by tram routes.
